How can I make a sculpting medium for outdoor sculptures?

Im still in highschool and i love art its my passion and hobby,
i specfically want to get into sculpting but i have no idea where to start because i havent worked on that quite yet. I know that potterys are really expensive & i cannot afford them yet. Is there any other way i can make sculptures out of something besides scraps and pieces of random objects?

Also what kind of college would be good for Art/Sculpting?
i was thinking The Art Institute of Chicago?

Where can I find clay out in nature that is usable in sculpting and pottery?
