Pomade and wax are in the same family of texturizing products, so even though they work the same they are definitely different.
In general wax is dryer and thicker than pomade, it usually has a stronger hold and is more matte (meaning not shiny) than a pomade. Wax can usually give more volume than pomade which makes it great for spiky styles or messy styles that sorta stand up off the head.
Pomade is usually a little greasier and shinyer. Its great for dry hair that needs some added shine or for if you want the wet look. usually it doesn’t have as firm a hold as wax so it’s used more for styles that lay down on the head.
