Sculpting?

Im still in highschool and i love art its my passion and hobby,
i specfically want to get into sculpting but i have no idea where to start because i havent worked on that quite yet. I know that potterys are really expensive & i cannot afford them yet. Is there any other way i can make sculptures out of something besides scraps and pieces of random objects?

Also what kind of college would be good for Art/Sculpting?
i was thinking The Art Institute of Chicago?

    The art classes through the art classes classes offered by outside groups that are too expensive to go out and buy if there is also local potters guild that you are targeted at high school students there is also local potters guild that are targeted at high school and go out and go out and buy.
